“New Jazz Conceptions” del 1956 è stato il primo album in studio che Bill Evans ha registrato a proprio nome. Tuttavia, a quel tempo Evans aveva alle spalle già molte registrazioni in studio e una grande esperienza come sideman. L'album presenta principalmente Evans in trio con Teddy Kotick al basso e Paul Motian alla batteria, ma contiene anche tre brani per pianoforte solo, uno dei quali rappresenta la prima registrazione di Evans del leggendario brano “Waltz for Debby”. Come bonus è stato aggiunto l’unico altro brano registrato nel corso di quella sessione (un’alternate take di “No Cover, No Minimum”) e alcune rare incisioni realizzate da Evans come sideman per i chitarristi Dick García e Joe Puma.
