L’album “Empathy” (Verve LPV6-8497) di Bill Evans segna la prima delle due sole collaborazioni del pianista con il batterista Shelly Manne (la seconda è “A Simple Matter of Conviction” del 1966). Come bonus è stato aggiunto l’album del vibrafonista Dave Pike “Pike Peak” (Epic LA16025) registrato nello stesso periodo e con la partecipazione dello stesso Bill Evans. Entrambi i dischi vedono il pianista in contesti insoliti e alle prese con un repertorio che in gran parte non avrebbe più affrontato. Come ulteriore bonus è stata aggiunto una seconda versione del brano di Gordon Jenkins “Goodbye”, tratta da una sessione quartetto di Evans con Cannonball Adderley.
