Questo cd presenta il classico di Bill Evans “Interplay” (Riverside RLP9445) che vede il pianista affiancato da altri grandi musicisti, tra cui il trombettista Freddie Hubbard, il chitarrista Jim Hall, il bassista Percy Heath e il batterista Philly Joe Jones. Evans e Freddie Hubbard nel 1961 avevano entrambi partecipato al meraviglioso LP “Blues and the Abstract Truth” di Oliver Nelson e nell'aprile del 1962 suonarono entrambi sull'LP “Pop + Jazz = Swing” di Benny Golson. “Interplay” ha segnato la loro terza e ultima collaborazione registrata. L'unica alternate take di quelle sessioni, così come una sessione completa registrata il mese seguente con una formazione simile (con il sassofonista Zoot Sims al posto di Hubbard), sono state aggiunte come bonus.
