Registrato il 2 Febbraio 1961, “Explorations” rappresenta il quarto album di Bill Evans come leader e il secondo album in studio del suo trio leggendario con Scott LaFaro e Paul Motian. Il loro primo album insieme era stato “Portrait in Jazz”, registrato il 28 Dicembre 1959, in cui si era già manifestata chiaramente la chimica straordinaria che legava i tre musicisti. Come bonus è stata aggiunta una traccia (The Boy Next Door) registrata nel corso della stessa sessione, ma non apparsa sull’Lp originale.
