Nel 1979 fu lanciato il Fairlight CMI (Computer Musical Instrument), il primo sintetizzatore e campionatore digitale, l’anno in cui il BBC Radiophonic Workshop festeggiava il suo 21esimo compleanno. Il CMI fu un rivoluzione nel campo musicale. In questa compilation del 1983, (riedizione per la prima volta dell’album completo) si celebrano queste nuove “libertà” raggiunte grazie alla tecnologia, con dei brani che sfruttano le potenzialità di questo nuovo avveniristico strumento.
