Quando George Gerswin morì improvvisamente per un tumore al cervello nel 1937 all'età di 38 anni, era un musicista molto famoso con una lunga carriera come compositore di pezzi da concerto e canzoni per i film di Hollywood e per il palcoscenico di Broadway. Tuttavia, difficilmente avrebbe potuto immaginare che le sue opere sarebbero rimaste influenti così a lungo dopo la sua scomparsa, o che sarebbero diventate standard jazz eseguiti e registrati da innumerevoli artisti nel corso dei decenni. Questo eccezionale set di 2 CD presenta un'ampia selezione di classici di Gershwin (nella maggior parte dei casi con testi del fratello Ira) cantati da alcuni dei più grandi cantanti jazz di tutti i tempi.
