Durante la sua straordinaria carriera, Ella Fitzgerald ha registrato spesso accompagnata da grandi band o sezioni ritmiche con pianoforte, chitarra, basso e batteria. Ha registrato però anche una serie di sessioni tra il 1950 al 1960, accompagnata solo da un pianista (Ellis Larkins, Oscar Peterson o Paul Smith). Tutte queste registrazioni intime, su cui la cantante interpreta noti standard, sono state qui raccolte per la prima volta su un doppio cd che include tra l’altro gli album completi “Ella Sings Gershwin” (Decca DL-5300), “Songs in a Mellow Mood” (Decca DL-8068), and “Let No Man Write My Epitaph” (Verve MG V-4043). Quattro brani in cui è accompagnata solo da Barney Kessel alla chitarra, sono stati aggiunti come bonus.
