Tra i progetti più ambizioni che il produttore jazz Norman Granz ha prodotto, rientra sicuramente la collana Song Book, che consisteva nel far suonare o cantare il repertorio di un singolo compositore ad un jazzista famoso. Il Cole Porter Song Book è stato il primo della serie di Song Book cantato da Ella Fitzgerald. In seguito all’uscita dell’album Granz visitò Cole Porter al Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, e gli fece ascoltare tutto il disco. Finito l’ascolto, Porter semplicemente osservò: “che splendido modo di cantare ha questa ragazza”.
