Con l'eccezione di una data al Blue Note del 24 ottobre 1947, Thelonious Monk non ha mai registrato brani in trio agli inizi della sua carriera oltre a quelli presentati su questo album, originariamente pubblicato come “Thelonious Monk Trio” (Prestige LP-7027). Quelle di questo album sono le prime versioni registrate da Monk di tutte le composizioni originali qui presentate. Oltre alle composizioni del pianista, il trio ha registrato anche due standard: “These Foolish Things” e “Sweet and Lovely”.
