L’album “Thelonious Alone in San Francisco” (Riverside RLP12-312) rappresenta il secondo LP in piano solo registrato da Thelonious Monk per l'etichetta Riverside (dopo “Thelonious Himself”) e il terzo lavoro in piano solo non accompagnato della sua carriera. Come bonus all’edizione originale sono stati aggiunti altri tre brani in piano solo registrati da Monk in Europa nel 1961 (due all’ Olympia di Parigi e uno al Teatro Lirico di Mialno) e altri tre brani registrati in trio con Henry Grimes al contrabbasso e Roy Haynes alla batteria al Newport Jazz Festival del 1958.
