Il gruppo protagonista di queste registrazioni è un sestetto guidato dal sassofonista Gerry Mulligan con Bob Brookmeyer al trombone, Zoot Sims al sax tenore, Don Ferrara o Jon Eardley alla tromba, Bill Crow o Peck Morrison al contrabbasso e Dave Bailey alla batteria. L’album è stato registrato nel settembre del 1956 e sebbene Brookmeyer e Sims abbiano continuato a lavorare con Mulligan in seguito, non hanno registrato altre sessioni in sestetto. In questa nuova edizione sono state aggiunte due alternate takes di “Bernie's Tune” e “Sweet And Lovely” tratte dalla stessa sessione di registrazione.
