“Mingus at the Bohemia” ha fissato un momento nel quale Charles Mingus ha trovato la sua identità musicale. Il concerto fu registrato al Café Bohemia di New York il 23 dicembre 1955, in quell’occasione Mingus aveva il grande Max Roach come ospite speciale, ma solo un loro brano insieme fu incluso nell’LP: “Percussion Discussion”. La band è completata da Eddie Bert al trombone, George Barrow al sax tenore, Mal Waldron al piano e Willie Jones alla batteria. Altri due brani registrati nel corso dello stesso concero, ma non pubblicati sull’LP originale sono stati aggiunti come bonus.
