Questa pubblicazione presenta due LP originali e integrali di Duke Ellington: “Will Big Bands Ever Come Back?” (Reprise Records RS-6168) e “Recollections of the Big Band Era” (Atlantic SD-1665). Sebbene siano stati pubblicati da due etichette diverse, entrambi gli album appartengono alle stesse sessioni realizzare per la Reprise Records e sono un compendio di vecchi brani per big band, per lo più mai registrate precedentemente da Ellington e che non avrebbe mai più registrato. Questa è la prima volta in cui entrambi gli album appaiono insieme nella loro interezza su un singolo CD.
