Questa pubblicazione riunisce tutte le registrazioni note di Duke Ellington con piccoli gruppi (quartetti, quintetti, sestetti) realizzate in studio nel corso degli anni Cinquanta. Il fatto che tutte queste registrazioni possano essere racchiuse in un singolo cd nonostante Duke Ellington vanti una delle discografie più estese della storia del jazz, fa capire quanto fosse raro per Ellington registrare con piccole formazioni. Come bonus sono stati aggiunti tre brani orchestrali che completano la sessione in settetto del 1956.
