La Lydian Sound Orchestra torna sul mercato discografico stavolta con un live tratto da un tour fortunato: quello in Inghilterra del luglio 2007. Il repertorio è in parte basato su quello dei due ultimi cd (“Back to Da Capo” e “Monk at Town Hall & More”) e in parte su nuove composizioni, come quelle approntate appositamente dal sassofonista inglese Julian Arguelles che è parte dell’organico. Rispetto agli ultimi CD, questo ha le virtù delle performance dal vivo su un repertorio che in parte è mandato a memoria e corre da solo: energia, groove, feeling e interplay, si fondono con una freschezza invidiabile. La Lydian Sound Orchestra è diretta dal vicentino Riccardo Brazzale, il quale è stato comunque proclamato dal TOP JAZZ 2008, e con uno dei punteggi più alti tra le dieci classifiche del sondaggio, compositore-arrangiatore dell'anno.
Riccardo Brazzale formed the Lydian Sound Orchestra in 1989. His initial inspiration was Miles Davis, but he changed the musical direction by bringing in his own touch, which he calls a contemporary aesthetical approach. Live in Appleby is the result of a Manchester concert followed by the ensemble breaking into its constituent parts throughout the Appleby weekend culminating in the whole ensemble performing as the highlight of the festival, luckily recorded for all to the the results. The UK dates and recording feature the fantastic UK sax player Julian Arguelles and tow of numbers are his own arrangements.
