Questo cd presenta il grande classico di Sonny Rollins “Saxophone Colossus” (Prestige PRLP-7079) che vede il sassofonista alla guida di un quartetto stellare che include il pianista Tommy Flanagan, il contrabbassista Doug Watkins e il batterista Max Roach. L'album ebbe un grande successo fin dall'inizio e contribuì all’affermazione di Rollins come importante artista jazz. L’album “Worktime” (Prestige PRLP 7020) è stato aggiunto come bonus insieme l’unica performance in quartetto dell’album “Plays for Bird” del 1956.
