Uno dei più famosi direttori d'orchestra di musica classica del XX secolo, l’austriaco Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989), è stato responsabile della Filarmonica di Berlino per 35 anni. Figura preminente nella musica classica europea dalla metà degli anni Cinquanta fino alla sua morte, Karajan ha registrato molte opere ed è stato l’artista di musica classica ad aver venduto di più con circa 200 milioni di dischi venduti. Questo CD contiene l’album di Karajan “1812” (Columbia – 33cx 1517), che raccoglie una serie di celebri brani di diversi compositori del Romanticismo: Tchaikovsky, Lizst, Berlioz, Sibelius, and Von Weber. Altri brani degli ultimi tre compositori, registrati da Karajan nello stesso periodo, sono stati aggiunti come bonus.
