Sebbene "Miles Ahead" sia stata la prima registrazione di Miles Davis con la Gil Evans Orchestra, non è stata certamente la prima collaborazione tra Evans e Davis. Le registrazioni di Gil e Miles del 1948-49, sia in studio che trasmesse in diretta dal Royal Roost di New York, sono tra i veri gioielli della storia del jazz. Lo stesso si può dire di "Miles Ahead", un prodotto assolutamente raffinato in cui gli arrangiamenti, il repertorio e il mood di ogni improvvisazione sono stati accuratamente selezionati. 5 Stars DOWN BEAT.
