Questo doppio cd riunisce tutte le registrazioni in studio realizzate come leader dal leggendario Miles Davis per l'etichetta Blue Note tra il 1952 e il 1954 (Davis sarebbe tornato a registrare per la Blue Note solo nel 1958). Queste registrazioni sono state originariamente pubblicate su tre LP consecutivi: “Young Man with a Horn” (BLP 5013), “Miles Davis Vol.2” (BLP 5022) e “Miles Davis Vol.3” (BLP 5040), con alcune tracce apparse poi sull’album “Enigma” (BLP5071). Davis è accompagnato qui da altre stelle del jazz come JJ Johnson, Jimmy Heath, Jackie McLean, Horace Silver, Percy Heath, Oscar Pettiford e Art Blakey. Come bonus sono state aggiunte diverse versioni di “Donna” e “Yesterdays” registrate da Miles per la Prestige nello stesso periodo, e due registrazioni radiofoniche realizzate al club Birdland.
