Questa doppio cd presenta tutte le registrazioni esistenti delle leggendarie esibizioni di Duke ellington al Jazz Festival di Newport del 1958. In queste performance si uniscono come ospiti della straordinaria orchestra di Ellington, Gerry Mulligan (nel brano “Prima Bara Dubla”) e Mahalia Jackson (nei brani “Come Sunday” e “Keep Your Hand on the Plow”). Questo doppio cd comprende anche le otto tracce registrate in studio e originariamente pubblicate sull’album “Newport 1958” (Columbia CS 8072). Come ulteriore bonus sono state aggiunte due versioni in studio dei brani proposti dal vivo: “Feet Bone” e “Just Scratchin' the Surface”.
