Questo cd riunisce due album del 1962 che vedono la partecipazione di una straordinaria big band diretta da Ernie Wilkins. Il primo, “Bursting Out With the All-Star Big Band” (Verve V&-8476),
vede come protagonist il trio di Oscar Peterson (con Ray Brown e Ed Thigpen), mentre il secondo, “Ray Brown With the All-Star Big Band” (Verve V6-8444), vede il contrabbassista come il leader e Cannonball Adderley (che suona anche nell’album precedente) come principale solista. Le big band che appaiono sui due due album sono molto simili e presentano una formazione di "all star" in cui spiccano nomi come Clark Terry, Nat Adderley, Roy Eldridge, Jimmy Cleveland, Slide Hampton, Melba Liston, Julius Watkins, Yusef Lateef, Budd Johnson, Milt Jackson, Tommy Flanagan , e Hank Jones, tra gli altri.
