Il talento di Chet Baker (1929-1988) sia come trombettista che come cantante è ormai ben noto, ma all’epoca della sua pubblicazione, questo album si rivelò come una sorpresa. “Sings” rappresenta infatti il primo lavoro che vede Chet Baker impegnato sia alla tromba che alla voce. Il suo strumento la sua voce sono estensioni della stessa personalità musicale, indissolubilmente legati e intrise del suo stile così personale. In questo album Baker si esibisce con diversi accompagnatori: Russ Freeman al piano; Jimmy Bond, Carson Smith e Joe Mondragon al contrabbasso; Peter Littman, Lawrence Marable, Bob Nell e Shelly Manne alla batteria.
