Prima dell’avvento dei bluesmen c'erano i songster, cantori girovaghi che portavano in giro per gli Stati Uniti i loro enormi repertori musicali che miscelavano canzoni popolari, balli e canti, tanto da renderli una sota di jukebox umano del loro tempo. I songster hanno contribuito a porre le basi per lo sviluppo del blues come dimostra questo LP che include anche leggendari bluesmen come Leadbelly, Charley Patton e Blind Blake.
