Following the success of last year’s release "The Legacy,""The Legacy," the second volume of this series presents a previously unreleased live performance at one of Chet Baker’s favorite venues, legendary Café Montmartre in Copenhagen. The club was crowded with enthusiastic jazz lovers when Baker’s quartet entered the bandstand on February 28, 1985. A Danish jazz afficionado, William Dessau, got Baker’s permission to record the concert which preserved this intimate and honest performance for CD release.
That night in 1985 Chet Baker felt completely at ease with his versatile sidemen and reached the top of his artistry. Although he had played these tunes many times before, he still made them sound fresh and new, allowing the listeners to get very close to him. The recording catches Chet’s unique lyricism not only on trumpet and as a singer, but is also one of the rare occasions on which he plays the piano. Just because he was not really a pianist, his piano playing gives you the essence of his artistic attitudes in its purest form - the way he was thinking musically. This extraordinary release is another co-production of CCB (Chet & Carol Baker Productions) and ENJA Records.
